Was a bit heavier than expected, but that isn't a real concern of mine. I'm not going to throw on the spandex and join in on race day just yet. Bike is stiff, nimble, and with ulterga down to the socks... shifts smoothly. This bike will get me to work all Summer and help me train a bit as I plan on touring n maybe race. Wanna spend a few days and nights cruising through the sierra with friends. Bike seems up to the challenge. the 6066 frame is a bum killer but I don't want anymore kids anyway. This frame should help that cause. The carbon fork is lovely. All in all the bike has impressed me. It's replacing a Gary Fisher that I'll keep for real mtbin'. Bike is awesome. Good deal. If ya have even more money to burn... go steel.

I built it up with a Kona Project fork. I have been running it on dirt roads with 35 tires on it and running it on the road as a training bike with kysriums and I would now say that this bike is a fantastic do it all bike. It is not super light but it rides great on the road and it handles well off road. I have not had trouble keeping up with bikes 4 pounds lighter. I would definitely race cross on it if I wanted to hurt that bad but it is winter so screw it. I am thankful I purchased this bike.

"What a difference", Hawaii has some crummy roads and bike paths and the Surly alleviates most of that with its smooth ride. For the 10 years I have owned the bike and thousands of miles I have rode on it, the bracket has functioned flawlessly. Many people claim or have problems with their brackets which I think has more to do with a flawed installation of the bracket rather then a faulty bearing.

I bought the crank set, with these bearings, in November, and started riding this bike (one of 5 I own, but it is my best and most used) in late February... I ground the bearings to powder by the end of March! I replaced them with Shimano Ultegra bearings, and they seem to work better, however the crankset won't stay together unless I torque the bold close to snapping and put enough lock-tight to glue a dragster to the starting line of a race, and even then it will come lose over a long ride!

Very happy with the 5200. A guy at the club got the 2008 5.2 madone and let me ride it immediately after a race - I was amazed at the difference, the 2008 Madone 5.2 is supposedly way stiffer, and you can feel it, standing up and stomping and you can feel the stiffness, it is beautiful and comfortable to ride. Descends nicely too, easier than my 5200 (of which i have no complaints) I compared it to the Scott Addict R4 - also beautiful to ride, but more like the 5200, the Madone was stiffer than both and noticeably different to ride. This is a great bike. I'd suggest you test ride other bikes with similar components to get the feel - in my experience it was heads an shoulders above the competition.

I tried Litespeed (Sienna, Tuscany, Trek (5200), Kestrel (Talon), Klein and the Giant Composite. It had to be the easiest bike buying decision in the world. The compact frame handles like a race car. I weigh 200 lbs and was tired of getting beat up on my Serotta steel frame, not to mention frame flex. The TCR Composite 0 is the most solid bike I have ridden.

There is no frame flex, but the carbon soaks up the road without being numb (Trek, Kestrel). I never thought that I would buy a Giant, but after reading reviews and talking to the LBS it was a no brainer. The TCR 0 is set up and ready to ride. The new Dura-Ace is wonderful and the Mavic wheels may be the best wheel built. The bike also comes with Time pedals (which I traded) but they were nice. You cannot go wrong with this bike!

I went to my LBS the middle of this year to get a price quote on it. To my surprise, they had one in their basement built up with campy record. So they asked me if i wanted to give it a try. After riding it for the first time i was hooked. about 2 months afterward i finally got my hands on my own. I got a 53cm (they run big because of the compact design) I have been riding it now for about 4 months from the time of this review. It is VERY stiff in the BB. Super light. All of the road buzz gets absorbed thru the bike. The only thing i feel is bumps in the road.

The bike loves to corner, the handling is second to none. Climbing is a lot easier, bike don't want to twist, so you tend to stay in a straight line, no zig zags. It is also great for descends, because of the compact design, you have a lower center of gravity. Which makes the bike respond very quickly to turning at high speeds. Its a very strong bike, i feel very secure on it while i ride, whether it be down a hill, or up one.

I was skeptical with the carbon dropouts. -- i was climbing up a pretty steep hill.. and one of my spokes broke. My rear derailed got stuck in one of the spokes and ripped off. I checked out the dropouts of my bike, and because they have replaceable derailure hangers, nothing was wrong with the frame itself.. just have to buy a $20 part to fix it up (outside of a new $250 derailed). If you want an attention grabber with the guys on your local ride, this will sure do it. i personally didn't want to be too flashy, so i got the black one. Good thing about that is your not restricted to color coordination (your stuck with red if you go with that one) .. although, im just happy i have one. And my LBS had both red and black when i got to pick them up, and both look awesome.

For context my last bike was a Colnago C50 which by many is considered the standard by which all other bikes are measured. Compaired to the C50 (using the same seat and tires) I first noticed that the stiffness in the bottom bracket was equal to or better than that of the Colnago. Power transfer was immediate and I felt that every ounce of energy I put on the crank arm was transfered into forward motion.

This was not totally unexpected due to the fact that the C50 is a lugged carbon design and the Kharma is a monocoque design with a larger area of construction at the bottom bracket. What did surprise me was the the rest of the ride provided by the Kharma. Stability was spot on (riding with no hands on the bar is was easy) I found that after just a few miles I could place the bike inches off the edge line on the road and hold it there up, down, and around corners without thought or effort. Vertical compliance is sopt on delivering a ride that is very comfortable while not feeling dead or wooden as some carbon frames can. I would rate the comfort a tick behind the C50 but road feel is a tick ahead which is quite a statement considering the C50 frame alone cost half again as much as the entire Kharma built up and out the door.

Some areas that need improvement are not related to the frame at all. The Fulcrum Racing 7 wheels are heavy look kind of cheap (I guess they are cheap) and the front wheel seam where the rim was joined grabs when breaking but they seem to roll pretty well. I will probably grab a set of lighter wheels pretty quick. I ended up with the FSA SLK Megaexo crank which everyone slamms because the non drive side crank arm I guess falls off frequently, we will see. The Ultegra stuff works and as always is beyond finding fault. Overall so far I am very pleased with the Kharma and I expect to enjoy my new ride.
